Global Perspectives on Family Planning

ch 1.30It is true that the world is facing a terrible population
crisis, but the crisis is not over-population. Instead, it
is under-population. With the gross gender
imbalances in countries that prefer male over female
children, most of the world’s populations are at or
below replacement level. Countries, such as Russia
and Germany, are trying to reverse their population
dearth. In spite of global demographic decline, many
UN agencies are pushing abortion as an international
human right even though the right to abortion is not
stated in any UN document. This section
describes UN documentation on the right
to life, world fertility and alternatives to abortion.
